The Bernadotte Foundation is currently accepting applications for a three month fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology which is based in New York City. This fellowship will include a one week surgical mission in the Dominican Republic, where the applicant will perform strabismus surgery under the supervision of the fellowship director. In New York City, the fellowship will include observing multiple pediatric ophthalmologists in their clinic, observing ROP screening and the treatment of threshold ROP, and observing approximately 300 surgical cases in the operating room at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai. These surgical cases will consist of strabismus surgery in children and adults(including adjustable sutures in adults), pediatric cataract surgery and nasolacrimal duct probing and stent procedures.
Applicants must have completed a residency in Ophthalmology prior to beginning his fellowship.
A six thousand dollar stipend will be awarded to each fellow for their time in New York City, and an extra one thousand dollar stipend will be awarded for the surgical mission in the Dominican Republic.
